Financial Aid Dates to Know This Summer
Essential topics in financial aid this summer: Ongoing major changes to the FAFSA, conferences, a HEERF deadline and Institutional Eligibility.
June and July are packed with important dates for financial aid administrators at colleges and universities. Teams have rolled up their sleeves this year for FAFSA simplification, a relief fund deadline and implementation of final rules for Institutional Eligibility.
Now-Fall – FAFSA Policy Guidance Releases
FSA will release ongoing policy guidance for the new 2024-2025 FAFSA.
June 6 – FSA Webinar
1 p.m. – 2 p.m. ET. Overview and Timeline. The first of 11 live webinars on implementation of the new FAFSA. Topics, the link to join each session and how to add calendar invitations can be found here. All webinars are scheduled from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. ET unless otherwise noted.
June 8 – FSA Webinar
Protecting Federal Tax Information. The IRS data retrieval tool will be retired and replaced with FADDX, or Future Act Direct Data Exchange. What are your responsibilities as a financial aid administrator in protecting FTI? This session also covers the consent process for transferring income tax data and what happens if any party to the FAFSA doesn’t provide consent on the new form.
June 9 – GLBA
Implementation is due for remaining data security provisions under the Safeguards Rule. Some provisions, such as a written risk assessment and encryption of sensitive information, were given an extended implementation deadline by the FTC.
June 13 – FSA Webinar
ISIR vs. ISIR. Learn about changes to the ISIR and the ISIR layout, featuring images of the 2024-2025 ISIR.
June 15 – FSA Webinar
Professional Judgment, Dependency Status and Verification. This session includes changes in determinations that affect unaccompanied homeless youth and foster care youth. In addition, 2024-2025 verification changes will be discussed.

June 20 – Comments for Proposed Rules
Comments on proposed rules are due for Financial Value Transparency and GE, Financial Responsibility, Administrative Capability, Certification Procedures and ATB.
June 20-22 – CECU Conference
The North American Career Education Convention, the largest gathering for private career education professionals in North America, will be held this year in Kansas City, Missouri.
June 22 – FSA Webinar
1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Student Aid Index Part I. The EFC becomes SAI in 2024-2025. This session walks through the differences for formulas and calculations. It features training for formulas for dependent students.
June 27 – FSA Webinar
1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Student Aid Index Part II. This session will focus on Student Aid Index formulas for independent students.
June 29-July 2 – NASFAA In-Person Conference
NASFAA’s in-person national conference takes place in San Diego. Financial aid professionals from across the country will gather at this premier event to exchange information and best practices.
June 30 – HEERF Expenditure Deadline
The deadline to expend all HEERF money received for emergency assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic is June 30, 2023.
June 30 – FAFSA Due for 2022-2023
The FAFSA is due by 11:59 p.m. for students applying for federal student aid for the 2022-2023 award year.
June 30 – Loan Payment Pause Decision
Student loan payments remain on pause as the U.S. Supreme Court hears a case on student debt relief. A decision is expected by June 30, 2023, when the court term ends. If the debt relief program isn’t implemented, student loan payments would resume 60 days after a court decision or if the case is unresolved by the end of the term.
July – FAFSA Outreach Campaign
FSA will send communications to 2024-2025 FAFSA filers to help them prepare for the new form.
July 1 – Final Rules Implementation
Final rules are effective for Institutional Eligibility for Prison Education Programs, 90/10, Change in Ownership, and Student Loans and Affordability.
July 6 – FSA Webinar
Pell Grant Minimums, Maximums and In Between. Focuses on minimum and maximum Pell and the new methodologies used to calculate an award that’s between the minimum and maximum.
July 10-14 – NASFAA Virtual Conference
Live virtual sessions for NASFAA members will feature unique presentations not available at the in-person conference.
July 11 – FSA Webinar
1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. An FAA’s Role in FAFSA Simplification. How will financial aid administrators assist students, identify campus partners, and align their policies and procedures with 2024-2025 changes?
